LLANGYBI WI
Llangybi has a lively and thriving WI with 24 members. We are affiliated to the Gwent Federation, and have a committee of six people including our President, Secretary and Treasurer. We meet the second Thursday of every month in the village hall in Ton road. Meetings start at 7.30 with notices, and information sharing from committee members usually followed by a speaker or a social activity. In 2010 we are planning a variety of talks and demonstrations including – Painters and Paintings, Growing up in WW2 London, Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Working in a refugee camp in Zambia plus a visit to Valley Inheritance Museum, Pontypool. In addition to the meetings, the committee organises outings, Christmas dinner and a Christmas shopping trip.
Prior to the meeting or outing, posters are displayed on the village notice boards giving details of the forthcoming event. We welcome new members (and past members returning) to our meetings, just come along to the village hall, and you will be able to attend for 3 sessions before we ask for your fee. This years annual fee £29.50, which is payable from January onwards.
For newcomers, joining the WI is a good way of getting to know people in the village, and there is no age barrier. We would be particularly keen to welcome younger women to our group, and you don’t need to know how to make jam or cakes to join !!
