Coed-y-Paen Platinum Jubilee Celebrations

Coed-y-Paen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations took place on Friday 3 June in a field behind The Carpenters Arms kindly loaned by the owners.  We were delighted to have around 70 residents, friends and family of all ages in attendance.  Those attending had been invited to dress in 50’s or 70’s style or in red, platinum and blue, with a prize for the ‘best’ outfit.

The celebrations began with various games (rounders, badminton, swingball, boules) for children and adults.  The picture shows one of the rounders games under way.

A number of gazebos, appropriately decorated with bunting, provided a display of cakes entered in a cake-baking competition, a crown-making station for children, a raffle, and feeding stations.  During the afternoon, there was also a treasure hunt around the village.

The outdoor events concluded with the judging of the cakes by a pair of ‘royals’ – the chefs from the Carpenters Arms, the drawing of the raffle, and a barbecue.

The events then moved inside the pub with a quiz followed by musical entertainment by local group Roaring Meg.

Thanks go to all those involved in organising the day, the barbecue chefs, the quiz and treasure hunt organisers, those who donated prizes for the raffle and salads for the barbecue.  Thanks too, to the weather gods for providing a fine sunny day!
