Llanhennock Walking Routes
All walks start from the village hall – (by the phone box on this map)
Blue Route: approx. 4km ( suitable for prams/wheelchairs if you exclude the optional extra loop)
From the village hall walk along the top road up to The Beeches.
An optional extra loop ( blue dotted line): go through the gate and up the field to the peak ( at the yellow star) ; then downhill and over the stile; down the next field to a gate halfway down on the left; return back along the lane up through Madam Rogers wood. Return back along the top road to the village hall.
Blue and Green route: approx. 7km
Follow instructions for the blue route to the yellow star.
Then turn right and walk to the gate; walk down Cefn Hennlan drive; follow the footpath between the house and sheds, pass through the gate and across the field. Keep to a straight path (with Kemys Folly always ahead of you on the hill beyond) down the field and through the gate at the bottom; then straight up and across the next field to another gate by Garn Bungalow. Turn left down the drive and onto the road, turn right and follow the lane for about 3km until you get to Ivybridge footpath (by the yellow grit bin).
*Turn right up through the woods (signposted to SCHOOL). Go through the kissing gate and walk along the left hedgerow, through another kissing gate and through the following field to the left corner. Follow the path between the houses to get back onto the lane by the village hall.
Alternative Orange Route from * onwards:
Instead of climbing up through the woods, continue along the lane from the yellow grit bin for approx. 500m. Just before you reach the old Caeryder Oak tree there is a kissing gate in the hedge. Go up through this field to the church kissing gate. Walk through the churchyard to arrive back at the village hall.
Green and Blue route with Purple shortcut option: approx. 5km
From the village hall walk down the path alongside Neville Cottage (next to the phone box) and continue through the kissing gate in the bottom corner of the pub garden. Keeping close to the hedgerow on your right, pass through the next field to the kissing gate at the far end. Follow the path downhill through the Ivybridge woods and turn left onto the road at the bottom. Walk 100 yards over the bridge and turn left down the drive marked Home Farm. At the end of the drive go through the farm gate straight ahead into the field and continue to follow the footpath which eventually bears right and slightly uphill; in the lefthand corner at the top of this field go through a gate. In the next field follow roughly the same contour of the land to a gap in the hedgerow opposite. As you enter this next field walk uphill to the right diagonally across the field towards a gate in the upper corner where the woods make a V shape.
Follow the path uphill through this small wood into a small paddock in front of Cefn Henllan ( wherein lives a friendly pig!) and cross this field to the gate in the diagonally opposite corner. Cross the lawn between the pond and the house walls to join the driveway and walk left up the long driveway to the cattle grid at the end. Just outside the gateway you will see the trig point on the verge opposite.
Pass through the gate next to the trig point and walk towards the top of the hill before turning left and then downwards towards the left hand fence; climb over the stile in this fence and follow the path down to the gateway and onto the road.
Turn left onto the road and continue for approx. 2km until you get back to the village hall.
Red Route: approx. 4/5 km
This is a more challenging route and is more difficult to describe here. It is a public footpath route and can be better followed using an OS map.
